Anex is an independent not-for-profit public health organisation committed to the prevention of drug-related harm. We deliver research, policy advice, training and workforce development. We use our expertise, knowledge and networks to raise awareness around harm reduction and drug issues in Australia and internationally.
About Anex
Anex – the Association for Prevention and Harm Reduction Programs Australia – was founded in 1995 out of an informal network of service providers. In Australia, Anex has been central to strengthening the infrastructure supporting frontline drug services such as Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs), and building linkages between NSPs and the broader health and welfare service system, as well as with critical research and evidence.
What We Do
- Research, policy and advocacy – an evidenced based approach informs all levels of our policy development and advocacy and guides the development of our programs and services.
- Training and workforce development – as a Registered Training Organisation, we provide training, consultancy, peer support programs and resources to national and international organisations across the health, government and business sectors and the broader community.
- Community support – Anex promotes and supports effective approaches to reducing and preventing drug-related harm including NSPs and pharmacotherapy (opioid substitution treatments). We also aim to increase the general community’s understanding of drugs and related issues.
Anex has a long history and expertise in organising sector-wide conferences that are recognised for their professionalism, innovation and capacity to bring together multiple perspectives on current and emerging issues. Previous Anex conferences include the 2006 Australasian Amphetamines Conference, the 2007 Illegal Drugs and Mental Health Conference and the 2009 Anex Australian Drugs Conference: Drugs in Hard Times.
