The Anex 2010 Australian Drugs Conference: Public Health and Harm Reduction aims for an exciting format that will ensure that many points of view are presented to increase our understanding of the breadth and depth of the issues we currently face.

Conference Program Highlights

We invite you to submit abstracts that will assist delegates in building their understanding of the challenges and solutions to tackling problems associated with substance use in Australia.

Presentations are sought that will elucidate the scope of the problem, highlight innovative solutions, or  provide insights into how various agencies and service sectors can improve and work together to contribute to the promotion of health for all Australians.

Stories from the coal face are especially welcome.

The program will include presentations of between 10 and 20 minutes. Time will be allocated for discussion at the end of each session.

We are particularly interested in presentations on the following:

  • Pharmaceutical use, including use of prescription drugs for non-medical purposes
  • Polydrug use: the concurrent use of licit and/or illicit substances
  • Blood borne viruses, including prevention, treatment and support
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Homelessness and other forms of social disadvantage
  • Impact of ageing for people who continue to use drugs
  • Addressing drug related harms in regional and rural settings
  • Addressing gender issues in the prevention of drug related harms
  • Working with young people and/or newly initiated to drug use
  • Working with people in custodial settings
  • Working with Indigenous clients and communities
  • Working with cultural and linguistic diversity
  • Accessing individuals at-risk or “hard-to-reach” groups
  • Young people, families and parenting
